Ron Ruelle created editorial cartoons for The Boulder County Business Report from 1999 through 2014. The cartoons generally need to have a very local and/or business slant, which can be a challenge to write at times, especially on short deadline. Some of the cartoons below come with a bit of explanation for those of you not from Boulder. (This town can be a little, umm, odd at times.) By the way, Ron won several awards for Editorial Cartooning from the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists for some of the work seen here. Ron also does illustrations to run with articles in the Business Report. Click here for a few pages...

Summer of 2012, someone started building a grocery store in a mostly empty shopping center, and for some reason, nobody could figure out what company it was, though signs pointed to WalMart. Pretty odd, really...

In the 1990s, Boulder fixed up cruddy donated bikes, sprayed them lime green (tires and all!) and dropped them off all over town for anyone to use any time. In 2011, Boulder put rental bike stations all over town. To their credit, both programs were quite successful.

To celebrate my 10-year anniversary of moving to Boulder, the Business Report graciously gave me a full page to do whatever the heck I wanted. I could have easily filled a couple more pages if I wanted to.

I The University of Colorado scrapped its century old Men's Tennis program to save mone. Part of the budget shortfall was due to a huge cash settlement owed to the former football coach when he was fired.

Crossroads Mall was a decrepit place that has since been replaced by a shopping district called 29th Street. The University of Colorado football recruiting scandal... well, that probably made the news in your town...

The cartoon below never ran. The day it was supposed to go to press, some more serious allegations surfaced about the CU football program and I decided it was no longer in good taste. I had just a couple of hours to come up with a new idea and crank it out. The "Peanuts" inspired cartoon above replaced it.
